Electro Polishing - Exterior Stainless Steel Products

During the forging and welding process, scale in the form of oxides is introduced to the metal which if left on the surface will rust. Electro polishing removes the oxides leaving the stainless steel clean, shining and far less susceptible to rusting.

Occasionally an interior piece may be electro-polished if a highly polished finish is desirable.

Manual Polishing - Interior Stainless Steel Products

Manual polishing is suitable for interior work which will not be subjected to the weather. After the forging process, the stainless steel is polished by using a variety of abrasives to obtain the required finish and accentuate highlights and lowlights.

Manual polishing can be used for certain work outside but in a sheltered situation i.e. porches. The work may require occasional cleaning.

Waxed - Interior Mild Steel Products

Forged mild steel interior work can be protected by waxing. This gives a very attractive finish, showing the patina of the metal. Waxed Finish may rust if exposed to damp or wet conditions.

Galvanizing - Exterior Mild Steel Products

Mild steel will rust if not properly treated. To give a no maintenance finish, the majority of work likely to be exposed to the elements will be hot dipped galvanized to BS EN ISO 146 (1999) followed by either of the following:

  • Etching - this will give an "OLD LEAD FINISH" as shown in top photograph to the left. Etching gives a russet grey finish which darkens when wet. It provides a no maintenance finish ideal for garden environments.

  • Painting if the client prefers.

Bromley will be happy to discuss the range of options available to you at the design stage.
